Daily GK for 8 June

1. Czech Republic pair Frantisek Cermak and Lucie Hradecka won the French Open mixed doubles title by defeating Daniel Nestor of Canada and Kristina Mladenovic of France 1-6, 6-4, 10-6 on Thursday.
2. Country’s highest Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) will be set up at Nyoma, Leh district of Jammu and Kashmir at a height of about 14 thousand feet. The Nyoma KVK is likely to bring about substantial change in the lives of people of nearby areas who are mostly nomads and rear pashmina goats.

3. Susan Elizabeth Rice, the American ambassador to the United Nations was appointed as the National Security Adviser of US President Barack Obama. She replaced Tom Donilon.
4. India and Myanmar set three billion dollar trade target by 2015 during the meeting of India’s energy minister Anand Sharma with his Myanmar counterpart U Than Htay in New Delhi held on 6 June 2013.
5. The first all-women police station in Arunachal Pradesh has started functioning to specifically deal with crimes against women.
6. Rajasthan Royals’ owner Raj Kundra has admitted to indulging in betting and placed bets on his own team, Delhi Police claimed on Thursday.
7. Fifty seven films that won national awards in 2012 will be screened for public at the National Film Festival that is set to begin in Delhi from Thursday.
8. TCA Raghavan, currently India’s top envoy in Singapore, has been appointed as the new High Commissioner in Islamabad.
9. Japan has unveiled its new bullet train, designed to travel at speeds of up to 500 kmph.
10. World Cup hosts Brazil have slipped three places to 22nd in the FIFA world football rankings published recently while the Netherlands have improved four places to fifth position. The top 10 countries as per FIFA ranking are Spain, Germany, Argentina, Croatia, Netherlands, Portugal, Columbia, Italy, England and Ecuador in the same order.
